Default That would be nothing short of a miracle!

Anything that is not insured and itemized prior to an accident in terms of add ons or "mods", are not covered. They are not going to add the cost of mods onto the bluebook value and cut him a check, it never works that way. You have to insure the mods in order to have them covered. There will be some monetary loss in this case for him, that is what happens. It is important to strip off the mods you can before they take the car away for dismantling in these situations.

Default actually, not always.

When I rolled my Jeep, they factored in the cost (dollar for dollar) of my stereo system, tires, shocks, performance upgrades, and tacked it onto the value of the vehicle... added more than a few grand. the only stuff that was actually insured as "extra" was the audio.

Default Ok, in English I think you are saying you included mods to your insurance policy?

If so, then they should give you something for the mods. I just don't think they add up what you paid for them, they will be prorated due to depreciation. And you will get something equal to or below KBB for the car. Please let us know what happens. It depends highly on the insurance company you have and if you plan on accepting their first offer. If the first offer seems too low, try to negotiate.

Default True, some situations work out. It depends on a few factors.

It depends on the policy, insurance company, and the ammout of payout. On a car that is older and not worth a whole lot, they are not gonna give him 4k plus in mod money on top of the value of the vehicle.
