Just wondering if mixing G12 plus with water has any effect on the temperature the car runs at?

Default Just wondering if mixing G12 plus with water has any effect on the temperature the car runs at?

Recently I've had a timing belt job done on 1.8T AWM. I've noticed right after that the oil temperature is at 230F after warmup, just 1 bar off the middle of the gauge. Before it used to sit 2 bars off the middle at 210F after warming up and would move slightly to the right when driven hard. The coolant temperature sits dead at the middle after warmup and does not move further. I didn't ask the mechanic who did the belt job whether they mixed the G12 plus with water when replacing the coolant or not. I know that the oil is cooled with the coolant, so the question is whether mixing G12 with water matters on how hot it gets. Less water = hotter?

the % of mixture should not affect engine running temps, just its freeze point.

A new thermostat w/TB job would explain somewhat, the guage is weighted to read on-center.

Default This doc has some temps for different % of G12-water mix...

This is for Dexcool, which is G12 equivalent...

The mixing should not affect your oil temps much though. Is it possible there is air in the system?

http://www.valvoline.com/products/zerexdexcool.pdf</a

Default Thanks...If there was air in the system shouldn't the coolant temp gauge be the one acting up?

Its interesting though. I will ask if he bled the system.

Default Yeah, normally it should

But like Junkie mentioned, the coolant temp gauge has a dead range so it may not show some fluctuations in actual coolant temp.

Default I'm not sure if it's 100% the same, but one can be replaced by the other...

if you're doing a complete flush.
