Default K03 turbo tech info?

Hi all - new to the audi community but we may be getting an A4 1.8t for a test rig here at work (sadly we only have a 2wd dyno so we can't get a quattro).

I was curious about the K03 turbos - being unfamiliar with the KKK lineup but more familiar with Garrett turbos I know that the Garrett center housing is interchangeable between several lines - you can bolt a T4 compressor onto a T3 turbine with very little effort (hence the ever-popular T3/4 "hybrid" turbo); I was wondering if anything similar is possible with the KKK lineup; I know the stock K03 "tops out" at around 12-14 psi before it turns into a heat pump and I was curious if it's possible to swap a bigger compressor on without swapping the whole turbo.

Thanks in advance!

Default Only a K04 and Hybrid K04/3 based turbos

will "bolt-on" to the stock manifold. If you are going to change out your turbo to a K04 or variation of you should get a ported manifold to go with it. Dynospotracing, SPP and Works of Art all have one.

Default Also keep in mind that the K03 on the newer models 'might' be the K03/04 hybrid

have yet to get confirmation on this. I read somewhere that they are, and Audi's info is sketchy at best. They use the hybrid in some of their VW line.

Default No longitunal mounted 1.8T's have a K04 Compressor wheel

, they do however share the same exhaust side to prevent cracking which has not been a factor for more hp.

Default Sounds like the subject is still up in the air...

Mixed signals here, eh? If K04/03 hybrids exist then they either share a center section or they are very very similar. I've got a full machining facility at my disposal if I decide to try this, so I could probably make a custom backplate, even custom shaft, for that matter, if that's what it took to fit it. I realize the K04 is a straight replacement for less trouble but there is a good reason that I'm trying to find out about options with mounting different compressors on the same center section. If I can get a 04 compressor bolted onto an otherwise standard 03 turbo, I have a feeling some very very good things will happen.
