it seems that its a safety threshold that works off of maf readings/engine load. i am not sure if it is something that is inherent in the software or what. but i have emailed a link to this post to some others in an attempt to get to the bottom of the matter.
i can assure you it is not a failing maf or anything like that as my car has a new maf, new N75, new vac lines, new turbo and possible new everything else you can think of (nothing broke i just replaced everything when i put my BT setup in so i wouldnt have to worry about it).

but I don't remember if I did any highway driving at first before this problem happened. to be honest, I think my first long trip with the car in this state and driving at the speeds it takes to have this problem was when i first encountered it.
Just a hunch, and I am an engineer, so I'm good at these types of hunches; but I think what might be happening is the ECU expects a certain range of outputs from the MAF, which with the stock PSI never was reached, once the higher flow rates is entered into the equation the ECU says "wait, thats not right!" and EPC's. Could be only on the 2000's as they were the first DBW and they ignored this thinking in the later models, and is something the earlier models would never have looked at? I would venture to guess you, with a larger turbo, will see it occur at lower speeds, where I need to be upwards of 60mph+ to encounter it.
I just went and talked to the guy working on my car. He didn't test the MAF completely, but he said the waveforms looked fine.
You say your working on a solution? I just emailed Andrea at GIAC(whom I've been emailing with) to see if I can get a hold of whomever there is responsible for the software for the 2000's, or someone that could help us diagnose this issue. We'll see what happens.
I think it too is strange that this problem seems to be rearing its ugly head only on the 2000's.
Maybe its a sensor reading(or more than one) that is telling the software that something is wrong(when in reality, everything is ok, just more than what the Audi engineers were expecting and so flagged it as a problem to give the EPC error). Maybe in dealing directly with an engineer at GIAC we can work on finding out what the issue is and solve the problem.
