Default k04 kit, kinda long

i know a stand up guy who has a k04 turbo kit he wants to sell. i believe that the kit either has 8 thousand or 18 thousand miles on it. i forget wich but i am finding out soon. anyway. he wants 1000 bucks or best offer for the kit. the kit comes with turbo 5 bar fpr and an ecu. i want to offer him 800 or so for it. what do you guys think. also whats the most power that kit can produce. i think its 240hp. is this kit worth it or should i just wait and peice together a beefier kit. all you k04 people help me please. i want more power on my car but i dont want to spend 800-1000 dollars on this kit then want more power later. can you guys tell a significant difference between the k04 and the stock turbo. i hear that some people on a stock turbo beat k04 tuned cars. is this true. i know driver skill comes into play but i dont know. also when the kit is installed and making 240 hp the site says it makes. is that low boost or what. can i raise the boost higher with a boost controler or does the kit max out on 240 hp. please help me if you can. also if you guys got dyno numbers or 1/4 mile times that would be chills. thanks for the help guys..

Default Re: k04 kit, kinda long

dont go with the ko4...its just a little bigger than stock for us and now ur wasting ur money...wait for a t4/t4 kit or go to ecodetuning.com and pick up an e05...ull be happier with the results...ive done a lot of research and my buddies and i all have tuned turbo cars so we know alot about them...i on the other hand must wait until my warranty runs out to upgrade my turbo =( . hope this helps.

Default No K-04 here but...

a boost controller is a no no. The ECU controlls all that and if you take control of the boost, the ECU will respond by going into limp mode. As long as your two cars are the same(DBW or NonDBW, manual or tip) it should be fine considering that brand new K-04 costs around 800. Most people around here say most K-04 run around mid 14's while some have broken into high 13's but thats while boosting high. The majority like I said run around mid 14. If you need more info, check the Search Menu. Its very helpful.

Default thanks guys you all are helpfull. and i checked the search but i always come up with other.. more

results on my work computer. its very weird but when i get home i will do some more searches. and thats weird about how adding a boost control would do that because are cars have stock boost controlers. but i will definately take your word for it and check out the e05. turbo.

Default got a k04, want more...

the k04 with eco is a huge improvement over stock engines. it will satisfy you until a wrx smokes you. then you'll want more.

Default The E05 is just a upgraded K03/K04 with a slightly larger compressor wheel.

Bad thing is it is not a 3K built turbo so you put your trust into the person/shop that put it together. It is also not going to be a huge differnce over a standard K04.

BTW a T4 is only going to make more power if you plan ot run it at high rpms, while the K04 is going to make more low to midrange tq then the larger turbo.

Default but the car makes more power than the a wrx cept for the sti when an a4 is running a k04. more

but the weight difference is huge. i ran my friends stage three neon srt4 the other day and through the corners i f*&ked him up but when we went on a straight away i beat him first and second gear and as soon as i shifted to third he passed me like i was parked, its embarassing. but my car for some reason seemed to hang with my friends rex and when i raced him he was stock with an exhaust and he didnt beat me to badly so i would think a ko4ed a4 should beat a stock or slightly moded rex. he now has an up pipe and down pipe on the car. and would smoke me horibly. this sucks. why cant turbo kits be cheaper.

I would have to say the K04 is your best choice for autox.
