Is the k04 the only turbo that can directly replace the k03 turbo on the 1.8T ...
i know the k16 and k24 are the other turbos that complete this family and considering all these turbos are made by the same people would it be easier to swap one of these turbos in rather than a t series, or garrett turbo ?

the K16 will not bolt up you need a special manifold
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/24958/k16_manifold_hohenester.jpg">
this is made by hohenester which costs about 1200 to import into the US the only other person who has a manifold for the K16 is AMS but last i spoke to them they won't just sell the manifold they want to sell the full kit of 12,000 bucks. but at one point i got them to give me a price on the manifold and that was $1875 which is alot of money. I have the K16 turbo with me i have been holding this for the past 2 years i just can't seem to dish out the cash to use it. BTW ABT/AMS uses the Hohenester Manifold also. Only Hohenester makes the Cast Aluminum manifold. AMS has 1 instock which has been sitting there since 97.
The K24/26 is a lost cause it produces alot of power but lags. that thing does not wake up untill 4K rpm and it takes for ever for it to actually kick some butt. in order to get that turbo installd you will need to purchase a MTM manifold which Tap is the only person here in the US that has that part. Hoppen Motorsports will not get that part for you why i have no idea?
Keep inmind that you will need a good chip to run these turbochargers, AMS can't do a chip on this for the 00 and TAP does not make a chip for DBW cars for this stage. so you are basically out of luck. you will have to ask some local tuner to fix one up for you. but you are on your own on this project...
A K16 will run on a K04 chip but you still can't get all the potential of that turbo charger. it loves to flow 1.5bar.

i just picked up a "K04 from a TT225" at waterfest 15, but i looked arround the internet and found out its A K16 from a 993 911TT
looks just like the one here, just not so shiny
it appears to be the same 3bolt in as the K03/4 for longitudinal engines, just with a 4bolt out to the downpipe
just wondering if anyone has made this work on a 1.8T yet? hardware? software? power?
looks like this thing would put the K03/4 turbo's to shame

Well it should put the K03/k04 to shame seeing that it is the size of a GT28r. Too bad a Elim kit will put the K16 to shame and for less money.
I have yet to see a K16 fit a stock manifold, maybe you do in fact have a K04 off of the 225 TT.
Just because it has a 3 bolt flange doesn't mean that 3 bolt patern is the same size as what you will find on the K03/K04 for our cars. Its just like saying a wheel is going to fit just because it has 5 holes.
The turbo off of the 993
Those bolts look much further apart then the K03.

i have cross checked part #'s and its definately K16 off a '97 911, 993 turbo
i measured the 3-bolt paterns, and it seems theres about 50mm between bolts on the K03, and 70mm between bolts on the K16
the K16 is in fact just as large as my GT25, if not a hare larger. i would assume its the size of the GT28r/ elim, as its actualy a gt2560 with a ball bearing chra, so they deemed it the GT28, the gt2871 is really the only one to get excited about.
also, not going to argue over the cost efectiveness of an GT2871Elim (>$1600+tuning) over the K16(<$200+mods+tuning)
i havent had any luck tracking down that minifold, but then again i havent looked too hard.
my plan of atack is to buy an eBay "high flow" tubular manifold, and weld on the appropreate flange then mount, and fab a new test pipe, does this not sound doo-able, and for cheap?
still wondering if theres anyone who has made it work already thogh?

The ebay manifold isn't going to last very long and by changing out the flange its going to break even sooner. Sorry but Ebay manifolds aren't exactly a great product and your just going to be wasting your money.
