Default keyless entry differences....search woes....

Hi, been searching for awhile and researching keyless entry postings....
Well, from what I've gathered the '96 A4 have a different keyless entry than later models. My car did not come with a keyless remote when I bought it, I'm not even sure if it came from the factory with it. Will the following instructions someone posted help with a 2-button clicker?
1. Take the key you DO NOT want to program and put it in the ignition. Turn it one click forward.
2. Close and lock the drivers door with the second key.
3. On the second key (the one in the drivers door) press the 'UNLOCK' button ONCE only. The lights will flash on the car, but the doors will remain locked
4. With the second key still in the drivers door, unlock then lock the door again.
5. Pull the key from the slot and test remote functions.
6. Open drivers door, remove key from ignition.

Are these instructions for certain years or all B5 A4s?
Can I get any clicker and try this out? Can anyone give me a photo or tips for finding a compatible clicker?

Thanks so much, Matt

ok, still searching and found a few more things out.... I think I have all the information I need except what type of remote clicker I need. Will any audi 2-button work? How about a 3-button if one of a panic?
thanks, Matt

Yes I have the box...
So all I have to do is find a compatible remote clicker and follow the programming directions other people have left?
Can I just use any 2 button remote?
THANKS EVERYONE!!!
