Re: Keyless Remote
copied this from a post that helped me to reprogram mine:
1.Take one key and put it in the ignition and turn the ignition ON.
2.Close and lock the driver's door with the second key (while the ignition remains on).
3.Take the first remote and press the "UNLOCK" button ONCE only - alarm will 'beep' but
door will remain locked.
4.With the key, unlock and lock the door again.
5.Test the remote by pressing the "UNLOCK" button again - door should unlock.
6.Open the door and turn ignition off and back on again using the first key.
7.Continue the procedure for the second remote - close & lock the door with the second
key (leaving the ignition on).
8.Take the second remote and press the "UNLOCK" button TWICE - alarm will 'beep' each
time button is pressed but door will remain locked.
9.With the key, unlock and lock the door again.
10.Test the remote by pressing the "UNLOCK" button again - door should unlock.
11.Remove both keys, close the door and perform a final retest by locking and unlocking
the car with both remotes.

Re: Keyless Remote
Thanks for the help I just tried this no luck. In the past I have used that process to reactivate after disconnecting my car battery. I think the issue is with the remote itself. I was wondering if there was a place to send it out and have it refurbished? I noticed some other parts other that the battery that might need replacing but I can not change them myself.

My suggestion: go aftermarket
I just had a Python keyless entry installed on my 98.5 last week and won't be using my switchblade remote anymore. The range is now awesome (50+ ft)and I've got one-touch opening all doors. Cost $80 installed at local car stereo shop.

You could try ebay for a new OEM remote ... or as Steve suggests go aftermarket
I never had the OEM keyless, but my aftermarket system was about $50. I've seen the 96 remote on ebay for about $25 or so used.

This is for the newer remotes only...
This is what the search button is for!
For'96's the process is different.
Here's the instructions:
1. Put 1 key in the ignition and turn it on. (Don't start the car, just turn it on until the dash lights up.
2. Roll down driver's side window. (You don't really have to do this, but I'd hate to lock my key in the car)
3. Take the second key and lock the car using the drivers door.
4. Hold BOTH buttons on the remote until the turn signals flash and the door unlocks. It should take about 5 seconds or less. Bingo!
To program a second remote, open the door, turn the ignition off and back on, lock the door and hold both buttons on the second remote until the lights flash and the door unlocks.

this has happened to me, the problem is NOT with the remote...
in my case (and seems to be a common problem with '96's) the control module is the problem, it is not responding. You have to buy a new one (lots $$$) or go after market.

=) ... Thanks! .... we are really going to look like twins soon ...
I'm going finish up my ecode/xenon install tonight. BTW, checked out your picture poster ... I like the S4 front & rear ... do you have done the sides also ... I'd be very interested in hearing about it from a fellow 96er.
Cheers.
