largest tires possible for a 99 A4

I have an early 99 A4 and I just bought 18X8.5" wheels. Anyone know how big of a tire I can go with out any trouble?

It depends on the offset of your wheels. 225 is ok, 245 might be pushing it

235/40/18 is what I would go with. You still may need to roll your fenders a bit though.

if you're not worried about rubbing what liam said. 255 wide is approx 10" wide tire on an 8.5" wide

wheel that is acceptable... wouldn't be the best look but it would be ok. You would have a lot of rubbing issues though. A 235 wide tire is about as wide as most ppl run with moderate to aggressive drops. This is dependant on how low, how stiff, what the offset is and what type of tire you're talking about.
