Default last question for apple users, networking to a PC network..

bugbbq suggested getting DAVE, which from what I have read, makes your mac utilize TCP/IP instead of AppleTalk, which is nice of itself.

It also specifically mentioned MS Domain access logon, which would be a requirement for putting a mac onto my network. Is this something only a software like DAVE offers, or does AppleTalk also do this?

Are you just sharing files? And are you running OS X?

Default it'll be OS X and primarily sharing files...

I'd like him to have to authenticate with my domain though, and I'd like to run NAV Enterprise 8.0 edition since I'm told there is a Mac client for it.

Default

OS X has samba filesharing built in. But it doesn't auto-authenticate.

Default and where would that be?

I never noticed in in my file sharing options. I haven't really tried running samba tho to find out.

But DAVE, I must admit, is pretty seamless. I like it.

Default DAVE is good if you wnat everything. SMB is a protocol that hides in the connect to server

option. You have to know to type:
smb://servername/sharename/

You have to know the servername and sharename as there isn't a good browser yet. There is a freeware browser available though.

Default what do you mean exactly..

Not sure what your saying in terms tonot auto-authenticating and then having samba built in.. With the native OS X features, would you be able to open up a "network neighborhood" on the Mac and see all the Windows computers and their shares?

Would I be able to directly access them via \\computername\share ?

Default I just saw SMB Browse on macwindows.com.. is that the freeware browser your speaking of?

In reguards to DAVE, does DAVE provide it's own browser and things of this nature? You said "everything", so I'm guess that makes my Mac kind of have the same functionality on my windows network a windows PC would when it comes to file sharing, browsing the networks, etc. ?
