In stock form, an S3 is faster than a comparable VR6 GTI. I've seen numbers from a German car magazine. I imagine a chipped S3 would eat a modified Vr6 alive.

Also consider - in Europe an S3 and a VR6 GTI 4-motion are very very close in price. If this would hold true for US, it would mean the S3 would come in around $25K - I would buy one tomorrow (I mean literally).

Maybe they'll simply expand the S4 range by adding the Avant, which would not be the same in their minds as sending us the S3.

saying it's performance figures are great on paper however the driving experience leaves lots to be desired. It doesn't quite live up to the S-car standards which aren't the reference to begin with..
It's the same with the Volvo S40, people are getting all excited over it, however it is a sub-par competitor in the entry level luxury market.

Yeah. There are a lot of "hot hatches" on the euromarket; S3 = Hopped-up Golf in their opinions
