Default LCD on my 99 Cluster went south so I got a cluster....

off a wrecked 97. Guess what! They are not the same! WTF! When did Audi switch?
I know for a fact that the LCD's work better on the older models. Anybody ever use a cluster from an older car in their newer one? Like from a 97 to a 99? How did you do it?

I think you are out of luck.

B5 was built 94-2001. There's a lot of parts from the 96/97/98 that just won't work in the later cars.

Major update in 98.5, so no big surprise, all manufacturers do it throughout the models life.

Probably easier to have the LCD replaced and turn it off most of the time.

The LCD of the odometer in my 1997 A4 1.8TQ is not working properly. Sometimes I could see a very faint display, most of the time there is none. Will replacing the LCD solve this?

The LCD everyone is talking about is the center info display, not the odometer in the speedometer cluster.

Maybe you should buy quattromano 97 cluster?

Oh! My bad.

@ quattromano, can I buy your non-working 97 cluster?
