Default leather vs leatherette

Is there any visual difference between the two?

At a glance, no, IMO. Since leatherette is synthetic, the grain is uniform vs. the natural variations in leather. It is rich looking and attractive. I am very happy with leatherette.
'99 1.8qms Melange

Not really, just pinholes. Get leatherette, and use the money you save for a CD changer or chip.

Default Consider resale ...

When buying used cars, people expect them to be loaded. Makes no sense, but in this price range (unless you're talking 1.8) if you don't have leather and a sunroof you will have a tough time selling.

Default This is silly.

Having a leather interior will enhance resale value slightly (not nearly as much as the original cost of the option), but an A4 with leatherette is not going to be more difficult to sell than one with leather.
Default Um, I totally agree. . .

I guess I can't say how good it will look in five years, but I will take care of my leatherette as well as I would take care of leather, and it will look its best. Most people I've had in my car think it has leather, and most of them can't believe it's not when I tell them so.
I can't believe it will be hard to sell even a 2.8 with cloth or leatherette. Leather looks like **** if youdont take care of it too.
Go check out the prices of used BMWs without leather. An 89 325 coupe with cloth and average miles is still worth between $5700 and $6500.
Darryl
98.5 1.8T qmsb, leatherette and lovely (although I would still have gotten leather had it been available because I like it)
