Less than 2 years old and my oil pump went bad!
Has anyone else experienced this?
I've got a 2000 1.8TQMSX 1.0bar and within the first year and a half (before chipping it) I got a peculiar ticking noise from the engine when idling for a lengthy period of time (5min +). I took it in they said "we don't hear anything abnormal." A few weeks later I took it back to the dealership and they said "it's the check valve on the filter housing." 8 days later I get my car back and guess what...the ticking came back. So I took it to a different dealership and they diagnosed it as a faulty oil pump. They said it wasn't pumping at the correct rate when idling. 5 days later problem fixed? Sort of.....now the car stopped ticking, but the low oil pressure light comes on. I take it back and they swear the pressure is correct and "it's the pressure switch" that's bad. So the problem seems to be gone, but to me the engine sounds a bit noisier than before when at idle. I wonder just how much excess wear might have occured during the few months this problem was occurring? To me this is unacceptable and how incompetent can the first dealership be? The car won't even be 2 years old until the end of November! Needles to say I won't be taking the car to the first dealership anymore (it's also where I bought the car).

my 98 had a failed oil Pump for over 20K mi's
had low pressure from 1200 to 2800 RPM, most pressure tests showed "minimum acceptable pressure". Only removing the pump proved it was bad, it disentigrated in my techs hands. I had an intermittant Oil Pressure warning on the trip computer, it was 100% accurate and correct. I have now sworn that the trip comp was the best 470 bucks I ever spent...better than the 470 bucks I spent one night in Thialand, thats for sure ; )
