let it snow, let it snow, let it snow, he he he ho ho & a topic
hey now, just got my blizzak lm-22's mounted and i live way up on a hill in colorado. i'm jazzed. here's a topic for all in cold earthzones. if you park your car outside, do you warm up the engine before you take off? my techs in alaska maintained that it is better not to, and here's why. what protects your engine is oil, duh, and if you warm your car up in the driveway, the oil has been hanging out all night in the lower reaches of your engine, kind of gelling, and low rpms combined with no physical motion keep it from splashing and reaching the upper chambers as soon as it will if you start driving right away. that is, a sitting warm-up keeps the upper parts dryer, longer. these guys are tops in their field, automotive engineering degrees, tuners of fine cars ( audi, porche, bmw, mercedes, alfa, ferrari, lambourgini, and on), and long time residents in alaska. anyone care to argue with them? anyone have any thoughts or opinions on this?

I've always heard the same - that it's bette right away.
I've cringed a few times watching my neighbor with a brand new 225 hp Maxima letting his car just sit and warm up for 20 minutes.
Not that I like Maximas, but they're not that bad.

What about waiting until your RPMs settle down?
Mine hover around 1200 when I start the car, but smooth down to about 800 after a minute or so.
I do recall the manual saying not to let the car sit and idle for too long before driving off.
