Lifter noise...
Can someone please confirm the following...
Lifter noise is usually more noticable at idle, and as you put the car into gear, and load the engine, oil pressure rises, and the lifter noise gets quieter as more oil works it's way to the lifters.
If the above is a true statement, however lifter noise increases as the engine is placed under load, does that necessarily mean there is an issue with oil pressure (clogged pick up screen, failing oil pump, ???)?
The car in question has nearly 100K on the clock.
Finally, our cars have hydraulic lifters. What happens to those lifters as they age or fail? What are the symptoms?
