Long awaited PES review !!!!
Well here is the long awaited review for the PES kit ... and why i was having so many problems with it.
I took my car to a friends mechanic (Mike) because he has done awesome work on hondas before and is very knowledgable when it comes to cars. Unfortunately when I gave him my kit to install he basically messed it up.
First day: I took my kit and car over to Mike's shop and gave im the installation CD and the whole kit. The CD had a word doc explaining step for step hwo to install the kit and hwo to run the hoses smoothly. even I could have installed the kit with these instuctions if i had the tools. He basically said he knew what he was doing and if he needed to look at the instructions he'll look at them. mistake #1.
The install should not have taken more than 2 days MAX (6 hours of work min). I went to pickup my car and he had not finished it. said it was pinging really bad and that the tuning was horrendous on it. He kept on bitching about how it is so much easier to tune hondas because you can basically program the ecu or use gauges to tune the car .. here we have to wait for a tuner to burn a chip and send it down to test it on the car. I agree with him to a point but thats what makes our cars and kits different .. the fact that they are kits and come tuned.
well I got a 3" exhaust done with no cat and because of less back pressure it threw my whole tuning off. Here is where PES came in ... they had 3 - 4 chips burnt and shipped to me over night to test on my car to see if the tuning was correct.
Unfortunately after 3.5 weeks of doing all of this with FedEx going back and forth car was still pinging and sputtering and I had had it.
Tony and jeremey from PES decided to fly a tech down to Miami to look at my car so that they could rule out the fact that the installation was incorrect.
Jeremey flew down on Thursday last week and immediately we hit it off .. he is an awesome guy very down to earth and knows his **** when it comes to cars. Very hands on and knowledgeable guy. We went to Mike's shop on Friday morning and put the car on the lift and Jeremey looked at the BPV to make sure everything was fine. Once he did not need the lift anymore he decided to take the car home by me and work on it there ... he did not want to have a pissing contest between Mike and himself .... When we got back to the house .... my car was filthy ... oil everywhere ... finger prints all over ... and then jeremey broke down to me what was wrong with the installation.
Some hoses was incorrectly run .. and there were boost leaks ALL OVER THE PLACE. this was causing my overboosting issues .... there were hoses that weren't clamped at all so they were leaking. there was a cracked hose from when Mike had tapped into the boost line for the boost gauge. Even the hose for the boost gauge was cracked so it was reading the boost incorrectly.
Jermey basically spent the next 2 - 3 hours changing all of that and my spark plugs back to stock put in a chip and immediately .. the car started running perfectly. It was the SAME chip I had before when Mike had done the install. I had not had my car for 4 weeks at this point and I was happy as hell.
Jeremey even had my engine de-greased and cleaned and Tony from PES overnighted another chip for my car with better timing and fuel delievery. all i can say is God Damn .. anyone that has sat in my car so far has been amazed. I amvery happy with my decision on which kit to get ... but the funny thing is ... the customer service I got from PES was AMAZING. I agree there was a point where I was so frutrated I did nto knwo what to do .. but Tony and Jeremey made things right for me and my car.
I am not against APR and this weekend .. when I asked Jeremey and Tony what they thoguht of APR's kit ... and they highly complemented it. I am glad I went with the PES kit ... got things straight. The guys there are great and always willign to help out big time ... even have Tony's cell number to call if I need to talkto him about anything.
I hope APR lets me dyno the PES kit at the APR bbq .... please vote here by show of hands who would like to see how a PES kit dynos at APR. thankyou. maybe we can convince them to dyno my car.
