long idle = check engine light

long idle = check engine light
Hey all! I have a 96 A4 2.8 V6(12valve) with Quattro and manual tranny. Its great. I took it up skiing to Solitude a few weeks ago, and while I waited in the car for my buddy, I had the engine idling. I'm not sure for how long it was idling, but as I pulled out of the parking lot and started down the canyon, the check engine light came on.
I immediately checked the engine oil, and it was fine, so I drove home, and the car felt totally normal. I brought it into the mechanic, and he pulled a code off of the computer that had many interpretations, one of which was a too long idle.
The mechanic and I agreed that was probably the cause of the problem, and that there was no need to 'operate' on the car any further.
Anyone else ever have this problem? Kind of a pain in the ***, that the light doesn't shut off after 'rebooting' the car.
