Default Longevity of 1.8T

I have a 1.8T on order and can't wait. I plan to keep this car a long time, so maintenance costs are a small concern. A friend warned me last week that turbos require long warm up and cool down times and even then don't last too terribly long. The Audi guys say that isn't so, but I would enjoy hearing what other's experiences and recommendations are with the 1.8T to get the most life out of it. Thanks!

Default Total grenade motor, don't chip...

Please!
The page before this has a very clear introduction to the forums. In that introduction there is information about the Archives. In the Archives there are literally thousands of postings on this very subject.
Don't take this as a flame. This board gets many repetetive postings which chew up bandwidth and eventually crash the server.

Istrongly disagree. Ihave a 1.8t since March with 23,000 miles without a problem. Prior to this car I had an audit 200 turbo I put 200,000 miles on it and never had a problem with the turbo. By the way I chipped the new one with 2,000 miles and have not had a problem.

Default 28,000 miles....chipped at 20,000 and still running like new.

Treat it well and keep it maintained and it will last a long time!
All cars should be driven moderately until they are up to operating temp, but the 1.8T does not take longer than any other car. Modern tubos do not need to be cooled down, but if I've just been driving very hard, I will just let it idle for about a minute before I shut down.
Just use some common sense and the car will be fine. It's a well engineered, well built car!
Congrats on your purchase!
Dave
32,000 miles, chipped at 12,000, and still loving every minute. No probs, either...

Default Re: Longevity of 1.8T

I only have 2k miles on my 1.8T, but I put 180k on an 83 Quattro 5 cyclinder turbo, without any turbo problems. I did cool it down at idle for several minutes after running hard. I have noticed on the 1.8T that it takes about 5 minutes of idle cool down before the turbo stops glowing red after running hard, so I cool it down too.
