Default Looking at getting a late 90's manual A4...

quattro. My mom has worries that the cars are unreliable and expensive to maintain. How is the reliability of these cars? Are they really that expensive to keep running??

Default Re: Those are legitimate fears of hers.

Ya and I need help to convince her that they are reliable. I already sold her on the good safety ratings lol.

Default not dirt cheap to maintain does not mean unreliable...srsly

Everyone has issues with their cars; the moment you step away from basic transport and get into something with a hint of luxury or sportiness you're going to be paying more, period...do you think the....<insert popular $5-50,000 dollar performance car> crowd doesn't experience similar issues?

My AWM has frame damage, front subframe does not line up during alignment, compression is subpar, turbo leaks oil, and I'm broke because I may have to sue family members, and yet the thing has carried me 41k in a year with precious little actual maintenance.

Default Don't encourage Mom to get an A4 unless she needs teh quattro. Working on my MiL's A6q is murder.

She loves that car and her quattro in the snow, coming from '70's vintage American monstrositys. She put 90k on it herself. I had to hear a lot of whining over that period, not worth the aggravation, imo.
