I'm searching for anyone who is reasonably close to Alpharetta Georgia, and has a VAG code reader, who could pull codes on a car my Daughter is looking at. Its an '04 1.8T, with the transmission display showing limp mode. I know this should probably be in the VAG or B6 forums, but I know that a lot of B5 people have code readers. I'm in CA so not much help. Thanks!

Why are you looking at a car whose transmission is in limp mode? Are you hoping to find a quick fix via vag-com, or are you prepared to rebuild it?

I'm not looking at it, she is, but the seller has said that it needs a TCM. Unless that's true, say from water damage, it may have serious internal transmission problems. Her boyfriend was a Benz dealer mechanic here in CA, is familiar with A4s and can do whatever it may need, if the price is right. So they are trying to figure whether this car has a TCM problem, an internal trans problem, or maybe a multi-function switch problem.
