You are prob. a tooth off. Put your crank at tdc then check the cam marks. Do you have a boost gauge? Are you seeing low vac also? It will "loap" at idle but then run fine at higher rpm. If this is the case then your prob half - 1 tooth off.

Interesting. My car (1998.5 1.8TQ tip) started having low idle problems and stalling issues shortly after the timing belt was replaced (80K miles), but I never made the connection.

Mainly my car idles at about 200 rpm lower than it used to. It also drops severely when coming from full speed to a stop and occasionally stalls at this point or just when sitting at a light.

It still does this and I haven't been able to figure out why. The last time I had it in the shop we ran the codes which gave no clues and re-adapted the Throttle Body, which also didn't work.

The timing belt being off a notch seems like a really logical answer though. I'll have to check that out on my car.

Other possibilities I've found in my research here:

1) Mass Air Flow sensor
2) Dirty Air Filter
3) Fuel Pump Relay

I haven't gone through all these on my car yet, but hope to shortly.

Let me know if you find any answers. Anybody else's input would be great also.
