Default low power pulling out in first gear

I have a '00 A4 1.8T 5-speed that right now has 1330 miles on it. I have noticed that when pulling out into traffic that there is a small lag ~.5 to 1 second between poping the clutch and the car having any kind of power( I actually feel a small surge) and then I'm off and running at ~ 4000 rpm). Is this associated with the low pressure turbo, does the car need some kind of adjustment, or is this normal. It kind of sucks, because I could pull out in traffic and get to 30mph in my old 92 accord faster. now 30 to 80 is a different story.

Only had two problems with car so far.
1] the washer pump went bad the second day I had the car.
2] the ski boot was ripped.

my 2.8 is known to have nasty torque until you hit 2500rpm or so. My problem is not enough/smooth air intake. Don't know if its related to 1.8 or not. Just my $.02.

Default what you are experiencing is turbo lag, all turbos have it, the trick is...

before you pull out, just rev the car to like 2500 to 3000 rpm and let the clutch out and you wont feel it. if you do it right, you wont damage the clutch either. and if you really want to take off, get it up between 4 and 5k and she'll really take off
