Default m3 vs a4

I'm debating between buying a 97 a4 1.8t or a 97 bmw m3. I like the looks of the bmw better, but it is more expensive, and it's not awd, which would be useful in NY winter. I like the idea of the tubo awd, but the bmw is still faster, with more hp. Any opinions?!

a4 quattro manual with chip/exhaust will put you squarly within e36 m3 speed territory.

that's hardly true .. many here are very open minded and appreciate both cars for what they are.

Default I would compare milage and price as a tie breaker.

But i'm biased to both audi/vw and the feel of a turbo (especialy if you plan on tuning it within a budget).
