MAF from online junkyard or just new MAF? risky?
My MAF has been acting up for the past year....VAG-log was showing ~130-140 g/s reading. (Heck, I get higher reading 150s with it unplug). Anyways, I ve been looking both the online junkyard and auto part stores; tried europartsdirect.com (OT: is europartsdirect same as germanautoparts?) and vwparts.com...europartsdirect gave me a whopping $236 for a 06a906461D while vwparts.com sells for 179.
Does anyone whereelse I can find a cheaper price for that MAF part (ATW engine code).
While an alternative that many suggested is to buy from junkyard; since I am a total noob with junkyard trading, here is my question: how would you know if its not another faulty MAF? have anyone had bad experience with paying for a non-working unit? Do the shop tested it and make sure it gives out good MAF reading before reselling them?
The best price I found for a used one is around $75 which is quite decent, but I read that ppl have had luck getting a new one for as low as 116/139, so if thats the case, I wouldn't mind paying extra for the peace of mind.
Thanks

I got one from a salvage yard for $50. It works fine.
The place I bought it from said I could send it back for exchange if there where any problems.

Yes, I am. Got the letter about 2 months ago.. However,
I highly doubt the dealer will replace my "faulty" MAF when the car is running fine. No apparent boost leak or antyhing, no CEL. Just crappy millege and low reading.
You think I will have a chance in getting it replace under warranty? Plus i dont' want to take the car in since I am out of warranty and who knows how much they will charge to "check" the car.
