Default Maintenance Dashboard Light

My maintenance dashboard light came on this morning and I don't have my manual in the car, so I called a dealer to get some information. The dealer asked whether it was flashing or solid. Since it was solid, the dealer said that it was safe to drive but that they needed to see the car. When I asked for more information on possible causes, I received a very stock answer that the light could indicate a number of things and they would actually need to see the car.

Also, I just had my scheduled oil change 2500 miles ago (my car now has 27500 miles).

Could anybody provide some clarification or advice?

Thanks.

Default Solid or Flashing? I think they think your talking about your MIL light (Check Engine)

If you talking about your maintenance light (Oil or INSP) you need to reset yourself if car is post-97. The dealer almost always forgets to reset the light. I'm don't remember instructions offhand, but it's in your owners manual. I reset mine everytime after an oil change. You can't trust the dealer.

Default Another opinion

Yeah. The Check Engine light. It just came on though, so I am slightly uncomfortable with randomly resetting it.

I called another dealer and talked to someone I considered more knowledgable (based on the sound of their voice :-) ). He said that it may have come on for no reason and that if it doesn't go away by itself by Wed. to drive in and they'll check it out. It doesn't make me feel much better but it is at least better service.

Default Could be anything. For me, the evaporator unit in the gas tank

detected a leak, so the dealer is ordering me a new gas tank.

Whew! and I'm pushing 45K miles too! Just in time...
