Which Manifold is Honed and Ported,The Intake or the Exhaust ?
#5
People normal extrude hone the intake manifold, port and polish the exhaust manifold...
the reason is the intake manifold runners are usually quite long and thin, so PnP would hard there. The Countour SVT for instance has extrude honed intake manifold and they claimed it gave the SVT +10hp.
The other issue is when going hi performance people just swap in a header(s) to replace the exhaust manifold. You can port and polish your existing exhaust manifold if you dont want, or cannot, replace it.

OK.....Now I'm more confused than usual !!.lol(ordare insert comment here)
Some dude was telling me that the one connected to the turbo is called the intake manifold and the other one at the top of the engine is called the exhaust manifold !!..ummmmmmm which is which ?

thank you Sir !!
I was looking through the Neuspeed catalog and they incorrectly stated the exhaust manifold as being extruded honed as it should read intake as I am to understand !!

http://www.neuspeed.com/pages/Turbo.html</a

You CAN also extrude hone the exhaust manifold...let me explain...
extrude honing is a process whereby a very gritty putty is forced through an object at high pressure. So it gets to places you cannot normally reach with tools like intake manifolds.
However, you can extrude hone an exhaust manifold too. What will happen after honing is the passages will be slightly larger and smoother, the smoother being the desired thing. For many turbo cars, there aren't exhaust manifolds available like headers for NA cars, so you can have your existing exhaust manifold honed.
SPP sells extrude honed exhaust manifolds, i think they are $300.
So to summarize, both are cool...PnP works to make passages larger, while EH works more to smooth and slightly enlarge. EH is a way to maximize the existing product.

I'm running extrude-honed intake/exhaust but I wouldn't do exhaust again.
ater two years my extrude honed exhaust manifold was eroded away internally. All that shiney "chrome-look" was gone replaced by deeply eroded peaks & valleys. Looks just like it did stock when it was a year old. Next time I'll just gasket-match the and dress up the inlets and run it as-is.
Intakes holding up great with no indication of similar wear. Looks just like the day I installed it.
By the way I have a brand new 225 TT Level 2 Extrude Honed/gasket-matched intake manifold thats never been on a car if anyone's interested. $800 to duplicate, 1st $500 takes. (I already asked on the TT forum).
