Default What are you doing there? Nurburg and Ingolstadt are not exactly close to each other..

Nurburg is not exactly close to anything.. I assume you'll have a car there?

Default Why go anywhere else, just rent a great car, buy plenty of tokens and send wife shopping for 8 days

Perfect vacation.

Default We are going there purely for enjoyment. No required engagments, just to see Germany. I have never

been to Europe before. Yes, we will have a car. We may even be staying in multiple cities depending on what we want to do.

Default Well, search around. I've been to Germany many many times...

but never been to Nurburg.. It's apparently a 2+ hour drive from the Frankfurt area, and I never had that kind of free time when I was there, and I was always there in the winter (for my grandfather's birthday.)

You can make Munich in 3 hours from Frankfurt, and Ingolstadt is nearby.

It's a beautiful country, you'll have a great time.

Default Munich is great and not too bad to get to Ingolstadt from there

Where will your home base be?

Default Flying into Munich, so we will probably stay there for at least a few days.

But we may be switching hotels/cities part way through.

Default If you have never been there

Munich would be a great starting point, Hoffbrauhaus.

Go see the Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria

Take a day trip to Ingolstadt

Maybe hit Austria (Innsbruck perhaps)

If you wish - Zurich Switzerland...but I think a better place (longer travel) is Interlaken Switzerland, if there go to Grindewald area.
