The tire is 205/55-16
The wheel is 16x7.5
Does the tire fit the wheel? I would assume so, but what does the 7.5 stand for? Some wheels are 7, and some are 7.5 in the 16-inch category...
Thanks,

16 = diameter of the wheel in inches. 7.5 = width of the wheel in in inches. 205 is the width of the tire in mm(8.07 inches = 205 mm). 55 is the % of the width that the sidewall height is...so in this case .55x205=112.75mm. so there is 112.75 mm of rubber and air between the rim and the road.

What is the correlation between tire width (205,215,225, etc) and wheel width (7.0, 7.5, 8.0, etc)..
