Hey guys, before you bury me simply based on the subject, check this out:
I've stfa for days now, read all the chip mbox chbox posts, and I'm quite aware of the compatibility with chboxes and mboxes, but I've got a new question.
I have a 2001 1.8tqm w/ stock mbox.
I also have a apr 93 octane chip (chip only) that was pulled/desoldered from a '01 chbox. This chip is the ECMS 1 version and not the ECMS 2.
According to the pics from APR's site, see following posts, it looks as if only the ECMS 2 style chip is on the mbox whereas the ECMS 1 is on the chbox.
Is anyone familiar with these circuit board chip nuances. Will my ECMS 1 chip work on my mbox? And no, I won't be soldering myself. Just thought I'd get my facts straight before going to local APR tuner for soldering.

Link to instructions for ECMS programming pdf

link to pics from APR pdf on ECMS programming. It appears that chbox has ECMS 1 and mbox has ECMS 2

link to pictures

yes I know, but are ECMS 1 and 2 chips compatible with either box?
In other words, can you solder an ECMS 1 chip from a chbox on to a mbox?
The pins line up fine.
See link for difference between ECMS 1 and 2.

ECMS 1 vs. ECMS 2

is simply in the connector style and has nothing to do with the software or ECU version. The board connector on 1 is now the cable connector on 2 and vice versa. If you buy the EMCS programmer, you can also buy the different adapters to use on any of the board versions.
