Default Mechanic says I've got a misfire in 1 cylinder that is most likely caused by . . .

bad plugss and/or fuel filter. Changing the plugs on my own is no problem. Am I getting in over my head with fuel filter? From what I've read in old posts, you have to drop the gas tank to get to it??!! Is this true (99 2.8Q)??

Default It wont be the fuel filter unless your getting misfire from all of the cylinders.

I would just change out all the plugs and see if it goes away. Then move injectors around if you have the problem after changing plugs. If you had a problem with the fuel filter you would get a DTC for running lean.

Default I'm experiencing fairly significant hesitation under hard acceleration. . .

Mechanic reset my MIL yesterday (5 minutes, $62.50). It popped back on this morning while accelerating. Luckily he'll reset it again for free once I get the prob fixed. I'm definitely gonna change the plugs before I mess with the filter. Thanks for the advice.

Default I had a misfire in one of the cylinders a few weeks ago...

and from your reply to Audi2ptzero, it sounds like you have the same problem as I had. I filled up at Shell and shortly after (tank still full) the problem started. Another words, bad gas. What I ended up doing was buying a fuel injector cleaner, put that in the tank and topped off w/ a couple gallons of Sunoco's 94. It still ran the same for several days, and the CEL continued to flash. However, after several days I cleared the DTCs and the car was back to normal.

FYI....flashing CEL means get off the road & stop engine ASAP

I can't speak for morpheus, but I'm not flashing yet. Just a steady light that I've grown to love.

Default I know...but I had to get rid of the old gas somehow...

and I checked several other things first, so I narrowed it down to bad gas.
