Default Metal sleeves for rear A-arm bushings - removal

I took off one of the rear trailing/A-arms so that I could replace the two bushings that are causing my crazy rear wheel well squeak. They slid out real easy, but then I realized that their respective metal sleeves are still in the A-arm. What's the best way to get these out? I tried to tap them out with a screwdriver, but no movement at all.

In the picture below, borrowed from Alf Arkin, they're the two listed as #1

Default I think they may press out....

can you find something of a little bit smaller diameter....put it on top of the bushing...and hit that with the hammer?

Default C clamp, and two sockets...

One socket sized to fit inside the A arm to push the sleeve out, and one socket sized exactly the same as the A arm opening so you can attach the clamp to push the sleeve out.

Default I use my recripro saw to slice the outer race, then just use a screwdriver...

to pry it out. If you use this method, be VERY careful not to cut into the arm, and when you cut, aim at the side facing the arm, not the thin part.

Default Hmm... I should have known there was no real finesse....

way of handling this. I was almost too happy when the rubber bushings slid out easily, thinking that I was just about done.

I guess this could also work with 2 pipe sections?

Sure. Or one proper sized pipe and a hammer...

Default Update: apparently the sleeves are rusted on pretty good.

My buddy, in a tool shop/lab up at the local college, just called to say that he couldn't get them to budge. He mentioned something about needing to get a blow-torch involved. Yikes!

That's normal. I'd try to cut them out before I got a torch involved.

Default Hurrah! My friend found a 1940s Atomic Energy Commission...

press in the basement of the CU engineering building & was able to remove the old sleeves and press in the new bushings. Too bad I wasn't able to see this monstrosity in person.

I'll find out tonight if everything is truly ready.
