Default Are Michelin Artic-Alpin's good snow tires?

Ok guys, I don't know anything about tires. I have a 2001.5 1.8tq with the 17 inch celebration Mich Pilots. My tire blew out today and I'm thinking of just getting 16 inch snow tires with steel rims for the winter months. I'm doing some searches on TireRack. I come up with a 205/55-16's for $93 each. What do you think? I mean I'm just trying to get through March and then I'll get my Pilots back on. I don't know what I should do and money is too tight right now to try to stay with 17 snows..

any suggestions would be appreciated! thanks.

Default Yes excellent...

I have them on my stock 15"s...I use them when going up to Mt.Hood on on the rare occasion we get snow in downtown Portland...
However their grip is excellent...and ride on the road is great...
Michelin Alpins are somewhat more performance based tire...but for ultimate grip in the worst conditions the Artic-Alpins are great...

Default Get the H speed rated Pilot Alpins.

They have a stiffer sidewall that yield better handling on dry pavement. Since you made it this far into the winter without cracking up your car by using summer tires, I'm assuming you spend most of your time on clear pavement, so the Pilot Alpins, while priced a little higher, should be worth the marginal expense.

Alternatives would be Dunlop Wintersport M2's, or Bridgestone LM22's.

Default I run (and like) the Arctic Alpins. It really depends on how much snow driving you do.

Here in WNY we get 50/50 mix dry roads & snow, I think the Arctic Alpines do better on icey conditions than the Pilot's.

I keep off the "spirited" driving in the winter, never know when you're gonna hit a patch of loose sand/salt or a slippery corner.

I can wait a couple months, put the summer tires back on and have a good time in better weather.

Default love mine.

bought them while I was still in MA/CT where we got more snow. I recently moved to NJ. Still get some snow, but I dont feel like I'm getting the full potential out of them. Actually we've had some good snow, and I've never had a problem....ever! def. good in deep snow.

like RKA said, softer sidewall = ****ty handeling. also, they have a low speed rating. Unless you live in a snowy area, get a more dry performance snow tire...M2's, LM22's, Pilot Alpins.

Default I got 'em

I like them a lot better than Blizzak's, seeing that I used to have Blizzak's, and my mom's A6 has them, just more of a bite w/ the arctic alpines
