spring & shock change on 01 A4 Quattro?
Things to watch out for, things NOT to do (like what not to disconnect) etc. it would help immensely (if you have a few minutes...)
Thanks,
Vic

Rear:
There are 4 17mm bolts that mount the upper housing to the chassis, 1 18/19mm bolt for the upper control arm, and 1 18/19mm bolt for the lower shock. Remove the lower bolt first, the upper control arm bolt second, and the 4 17mm bolts last. Just a little easier, but by no means leave the bottom bolt last. You may need a prybar to get the bottom of the shock out, as it's kinda wedged in there. Note the orientation of the bottom bolt relative to the top bolts. This is key to lining the stuff back up.
After removing those bolts, take the whole assembly out of the car, compress the spring slightly, and remove that 18/19mm bolt that goes through the center of the housing. Assembly is reverse. Remember to realign that bottom eyelet up in the correct orientation.
Front:
In the engine bay there are two dust covers above the strut. They're painted body color, and reside between those 3 greenish 16mm bolts. Pop those dust covers out, and beneath them are 2 13mm nuts. For the front, you have those 2 nuts, 1 16mm for the upper control arms, and a 18/19mm for the lower shock. Remove the lower shock first, then the 16mm. Slide the 16mm bolt all the way out, and push the two upper control arms up out from the location. Then remove the two 13mm nuts up top. Turn the steering wheel towards the side of the car you're working, and that should aide in removing that lower bolt. (it gets hung up on the lower arm). Once that bolts out, the whole strut should come out.
To take the top nut off the strut, there are two methods. If you have an impact gun, compress the spring, and use an 18mm deep impact on that nut. If you don't have an impact, FIRST slightly loosen that top nut using a wrench and socket. Once you slightly loosen that nut, then compress the spring, and fully remove the top nut with a socket. Installation is reverse.
Hope this helps.
