Misfire in #4 Cylinder
I took my 2000 A4 1.8t in trying to get in on the coil recall. The CEL was on and they got a misfire. They wanted $189 to replace the coil. I had a spare 45 minutes so I bought the coil ($33) and put it on myself.
The damn thing is still running rough like it was before. The CEL came back on and I swear it's going to stall when I get to a stop.
any ideas? I am going back to Audi tomorrow and see what brilliant ideas they have.

Most likely it is going to be our ignition control module. It is located on top of your air box under the small engine shroud that just pulls up to take off. If you replaced the coil pack and have the same problem than this is going to be your problem. When the car is running unplug the coil packs one at a time to find out which one is not firing. when out find out which one it is than swap that coil pack out for another one and see if it is the same coil pack or cylinder that isn't firing. If the coil pack that wasn't working is now working and the the one that was working is now not working than it is going to be the ignition control module. It takes about 5 minutes to swap it out but is pretty pricy. Do not buy it from Audi they will charge you $500. Order online a good place to buy is www.germanautoparts.com

My CEL is flashing.
I am at the dealer writing this at !!am. They told me that last week when they said it was the coil and that they would replace it for $190. As I said I took it home and in 10 minutes replaced the coil.
This morning I asked them what would have happened had I paid for that coil and it didn't fix the problem. They claim it's just the first step in diagnosis. I said -in a crowded service area- that I am not in the habit of paying professionals to guess what might be wrong with my car.
Anyway, I am fully expecting them to tell me it is the ignition control module as YOU stated. I called my former indy shop in NJ and he said he thinks it's the module too.
I am going to check the site you mentioned.
Thanks

OK, here it is.
The dealer spent an hour diagnosing the car and came up with it needing new rings. The #4 cylinder is reading 80 pounds and the rest are reading 140.
I'm not buying it. The saga continues.

I took it to an independent shop and the guy says that the motor is shot at 195,000 miles. There isn't enough compression in the #4 cylinder to fire it.
I'm beat.
I'm beat.
