Mixing new spare tire with old tires?

I just got a flat tire today and I swapped it with the full size spare which has never been used. My car has only 17000 miles on it and I haven't been driving the car hard. Is it okay to use the spare along with the older tires? Or should I have the tire shop patch and fix the flat tire and put it back?

There was no significant difference in tire wear on my tires between the new spare and the old ones, so I did the same thing...
I swapped on the spare and replaced the tire on the other wheel. That wheel is now my "spare" and the newer tire is still on the car along with the three originals. When it comes time to replace the tires I'll discard the three originals, buy three more of the same type, and swap the newer tire back into the spare tire well in exchange for the brand new tire that I've just had replaced.
