Default Mobil 1 Extended Performance

2000 A4Q 2.8 Sedan

Does anyone use this? Previous owner used plain old Mobil 1. EP states 15,000 miles between changes.

Another question...what viscosity would you recommend for me? I live in Bethlehem, Pa. Mobil site says 0W 40 for Mobil 1. EP doesn't have that.

Default I've used it. Depends on what is available in the weight I'm looking for

I use 0w40 or 5w40 in the winter. 5w40 - 15w50 in the summer. Regardless of whether it is regular or EP I stick to a 5k mi. change interval. I live in NY so any of the weights I listed should be fine for you as well. Search for oil related posts by audijunkie. Plenty of oil brand, weight info.

I would never use oil for 15k miles. 7500 tops w/ synthetic. Oil simply isn't that expensive

Default I wouldn't either , but my uncle did with the original M1 in the 70's with a 72 Fiat.

He was first person I know that used Mobil 1 . He bought a new Fiat X1/9 to play with. His old Abarth racing friends helped him take all the US emissions equipment off the engine and convert it to european racing parts . The cam , carb , exhaust and some engine electricals were changed as well as some engine/head work done and brake improvements ,with no external changes. He started using Mobil 1 from its start in 1974 . The original way was 15k between changes and change the filter and top off at the 7.5k point between the changes. These cars were never noted for long engine life but when it was sold it had over 170k miles and the head had never been off since the mods were done. If anyones family ever had their doors blown off by a bright yellow Fiat between the 70's to mid 80's in High Point ,NC thats the reason why. The power was estimated at 140 up from the OE 85 hp . In a 2200 lb car that made for a quick car back then. I beat a 911 in it ,much to that drivers embarassment.

Default Do not trust Mobil to make it 15K, Amsoil or Redline only for those distances . . .

I will occasionally run my 2.8 12v for 15K on Amsoil, but I have a dual filter system which uses a regular filter and a by-pass filter that has 98% effectiveness at 2 microns. Amsoil will remain viscous enough and the filters keep the oil clean enough to run that long--in fact, I do not even get oil discoloration on the valve train with the by-pass filter.

If you want to run 15k without the by-pass filter, run Amsoil 10-40 high performance and do 5,000-mile oil filter changes with 1 liter top-offs on existing oil and use an oil antioxidant like LCD corp's LC20. You would be surprised how much oil life you gain by the mere liter of oil that you swap out when you change filters. The LC20 helps prevent oxidation.

A lot of things happen to oil over time: viscosity break down, carbon and other types of contamination, oxidation . . . . Do not risk 15K without investing in better oil, more filtration, and antioxidants.

Default V6, needs a 40 weight.0w-40 is ok, Mobil 1 10w-40 Hi-Miles is better,5w-40 Turbo Diesel Truck's best

V6 really does not need synth, although you can go 10k in a clean engine with it. Better bet is an Auto-Rx treatment with plain dino 10w-40 or 15w-40 and then a nice Hi-Miles oil like Castrol GTX HM or MaxLife. The 2 Mobil 1 I'd use are 10w-40 HM or the awesome 5w-40 TDT, both at WalMart. btw- plain filters like Puralator L30257 or STP S3569 are fine. 6000-8000 is fine on HM oil or dino w/ a few oz of Auto-Rx. Synth oil is more like 8000-10,000 making it less cost-effective, imo. M1 TDT is the only true long drain oil for V6, besides AMSoil or German Syntec 0w-30.

Why is M1 5w-40 Turbo Diesel Truck the best? Just curious.

Default I think Audi Junkie will agree ,superior burn off protection and resistance to break down..

Meets or exceeds almost every manufacturers spec for Deisel and can be use in a gas engine. Thicker film for lubricity and sheer strength, while maintaining the ability to flow at temperatures down to -20 F .

Dang! I'll guess I'll have to get some. Is it good for all four seasons in winter climates?
