Default Modified final drive and torque converter on automatic 2000 A4 models?

This change, along with LEV classification of 1.8T and 2.8 engines (from TLEV) is listed by VWvortex.com as some of the changes on the 2000 model A4. Does anyone know if the change to the final drive ratio and torque converter on automatic models affects (or hopefully improves) the performance characteristics (mainly acceleration)? Also, what do they do to the engines to make them LEV?
