Motor mount replacement... (my experience)
Last time a changed my oil I noticed that my passenger side mount was leaking when I took off the belly pan.
<img src="http://www.pbase.com/rookie18/image/55181904/large.jpg">
It was obvious where it was coming from once I looked up.
<img src="http://www.pbase.com/rookie18/image/55181905.jpg">
I don't know of any other purple fluid that comes from under there.
So after procrastinating for a few weeks I finally got around to replacing my leaking motor mount. I ordered the 2.8/S4 mounts from PureMS along with a few other things. I figured I ought to do both of them while I was in there even through the other mount seemed fine.
<img src="http://www.pbase.com/rookie18/image/55181911.jpg">
I followed the <a href="https://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng57.shtml">tech article</a> by WJM and Hurricane Steve, thanks guys! I was able to get that top nut on the passenger side mount using a 1/4 drive socket.
<img src="http://www.pbase.com/rookie18/image/55181908.jpg">
I reached this from the bottom, and after struggling for a while I finally got it off. Also, I removed the two bushing brackets from the sway bar but I didn't touch the endlinks. I was able to swing the bar far enough out of the way. To support the engine while removing the brackets that the mounts are bolted to, I used my jack on the bracket for the snub mount
<img src="http://www.pbase.com/rookie18/image/55181909.jpg">
I also through a jack stand under the subframe just in case.
<img src="http://www.pbase.com/rookie18/image/55181915.jpg">
After that, removing the mounts was straight forward just like in the tech article. At the <a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/2479299.phtml">suggestion</a> of ModifiedA4 last Friday I paid close attention to aligning the subframe when reassembling. I had never noticed the alignment holes before.
<img src="http://www.pbase.com/rookie18/image/55181912.jpg">
This is the driver side one right behind the intercooler. I made sure the holes lined up before taking the brackets apart using a deep 14mm socket. It was a very snug fit.
<img src="http://www.pbase.com/rookie18/image/55181914.jpg">
I put it back in there while torquing all the bolts down.
Everything went back together fine. When I starting the car I noticed that it was smoother and there was a slight change in the pitch. Going for a test drive there was a noticeable improvement in the drivetrain slop.
Here is one last picture (I promise) of the two old mounts next to each other.
<img src="http://www.pbase.com/rookie18/image/55181913.jpg">
They are noticable different. I wasn't able to pull any part numbers off them to compare. I replaced them both with the 2.8/S4 ones which look like the one on the left. Does anyone know what is different about the drivers side one?
Anyway, thanks for reading this or at least looking at the pictures.

Nice job, I did the RS4 mounts awhile ago
after looking at your pics, I guess my passenger was starting to leak also. Few pics below<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/2359325.phtml">https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/2359325.phtml</a</li></ul>

i replaced mine last week (both are same looking as the left one in the last pic)
noticeably different mostly because of the leaking old mounts. i snapped one of the studs on the engine mount bracket so i had to buy another bracket which delayed the install. overall, couldn't be happier with the upgrade.
i didn't do the alignment part but i will sure check it.

awesome, now if everyone would do writeups for all the stuff we do we should have everything covered
i think nobody did a writeup with pics for an oild change with the coolant reservoir removal yet
