Default Motor Oil weight for continuous hot climate?

As some of you know, I live in Hawaii now and it's always hot here. I'm used to using 10W30, but I notice I'm getting valve clatter sooner than usual as the oil thins out right when it's about ready to change the oil.

I'm thinking about going with a higher weight to compensate. The car is semi-high mileage too...125k

Opinions?

0W-50 or 5W-50 or 10w-50 or 15W-50 work well in the Aloha state

Default Yeah Dude... the Superferry is supposed to start service between Kailua-Kona and Honolulu next year.

Supposed to anyways. It would be crazy to have an AudiWorld Polynesia get-together WITH our cars from different islands.

Looking forward to it.

Default 10w-30 is likely a lil thin when you hit operating temp over +200f.Any 5w-40 would be better synth

I'm just pointing out that any 5w-40 is always synthetic and would work well. 5w-40 is also most commonly found, why chase around for 10w-40 or other oddball viscs. Mobil or Shell Truck 5w-40s are ideal.
As for visc, it stays thicker when hot and about the same as 10w-30 at most other temps. When cold, 10w-30 synth is actually thinner in most cases.

That valve chatter could also be a tensioner or a bad antidrainback valve on the filter. A red silicone adbv is a lil better in this regard than the black nitrile ones, esp in cold and at longer ocis.

Default Stage 3 and 30 weight oil? Whose idea was that? You should do a $20 Blackstone Used Oil Analysis

They send you a sampling kit, you send back a jar of the oil oil and they do a gas spectro to see what the amounts of wear metals are. Different metals correspond to different componets of the engine.

Audi specs call for a much thicker oil than 30 weight.

Raise specific output of the engine and you need to watch the oil temps and visc.
