Motorola V60 phone...

As most of you already know by June most Audi dealers will be offering the new Motorola V60 phone as compatible with the hands free operation in Audi models 1998 or NEWER. Those who buy a 2002/2003 can have this installed with no "retro fit".
Those of us with Audi's (1998 to 2001) simply must have our dealers install the "upgrade" or "kit" for the V60 to be compatible with our steering wheel controls...
Our question is this; if one were to buy the Motorola V60 phone at a separate vendor will it be compatible with the AUDI retro fit? Or must you buy the V60 at your local dealer for it to work in your Audi?
Our main reason for asking is the V60 has a list price of around $425 to $475 - you can expect to pay this at the dealer, plus install and kit price... But right now through Verizon Wireless if you sign up for new service with an annual agreement you can get the V60 for 50% OFF!
We would much rather save $200 (or more) and go to Verizon then pay the local dealer for the hands free kit/upgrade.
Any thoughts, opinions, advice... Phone for sale?

http://commerce.motorola.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=239607&prmenbr=126&phone_cg rfnbr=1&zipcode=</a

An aftermarket phone will not work. There was some info posted by Ed. P the other day about this.

something about one of the front door drivers having a dual voice coil, one for the handsfree?
also, quite a few aftermarket headunits don't have mute sensor wires.
