-it sort of sounds like the sunroof motor, and reacts according to the revs of the engine.
-Is most apparent when accelerating from rest or from slow speeds, perhaps in part due to the lack of road noise.
-is kind of faint, one has to turn down the radio and preferably close all windows to hear it properly.
-is completely independent of the steering wheel.
-if I put the car in neutral and rev the engine the noise is not there.
-seems to be coming from the front left side of the car.
The car behaves the same way as ever. Anyone who has had anything similar? Is it a transmission problem? Any advice or ideas would be appreciated.
GusS
98.5 A4 2.8qSTip
If it is a wheel bearing, you should be able to get to about 30 mph, kill the engine, and then hear
it as car is rolling. I had the ABS wire come lose from its mount point and start hitting the inside of the wheel - which made a strange noise - you might want to check that.
