I have always thought the 2.8 engine as one of audi's best for reliability.Perhaps a little underpowered.Where i live there are not many around,so i really enjoy driving it.

No need to knock the '96 12-valve. Sure, it's about 9% lower in max power than a 30V, but you never need to worry about chain tensioners! My only complaint is the steep power curve; you've got to tach it up to get decent acceleration. That said, I like the way the 30-valves drive. We have a 30V 3.0 in the family that has much better torque (+20%), and about 50HP more on the top-end. But all in all, the 2.8 in my '96 is a fine engine that always runs great and doesn't leak or smoke. All I've ever had to do is clean the EGR passage, change the oil pressure switch, and thermostat.

Yes I know, like I said, I have the 12v. and power is exactly what I meqant, so much less of it. However i admire the integrity of it, has NEVER failed me.

Hooray for the 12v! The things are bulletproof. I have a white 96 B5 that just turned 150k and she runs like a top. A little tired but still kicking non the less! Cheers to 50k more!
