I have a 97 A4 1.8t manual trasmision. Last night when I went to go drive. I tried to put the car in reverse. When I did this it had the same effect as being in Neutral. So I put it into drive it would drive fine. When I looked down at the display. everything was lit up. The "PND432" all were lit up at the same time. I did however get the car to reverse. I did this by holding the lever kind of inbetween the R and N and it would kick in the reverse gear. I was wondering has anyone heard of this problem before? Do you all think this would be a transmisions problem? Do you think it could be a problem with the shifter?
Please any suggestions would be appreciated.

The same thing happened to me when I took a rental car and got it airborne. There were fluids all over the ground. The next day when I tried to start my car (automatic), I would put it in gear and it would just rev like it was in neutral. I plugged up the hole with bubble gum, filled it up with some trany fluid, and dropped it off at Enterprise. =) It is definitely something to do with the tranny. Better get that problem checked out.

...check you r fluid level in the trans as per the owners manual. If the shifter is out of alignment you should be able to get a gear by moving it around. Check the fluid first.
