my bleepin cat converter just broke off. what kind of damages am I looking at? Can I weld this?

It won't be easy finding an honest shop...most would rather charge for a new cat...
I had the exact same problem on someone else's car. I drove around the whole day trying to find someone who would weld it up. Not a single shop in the area wanted to do it. Midas laughed at me when I asked if instead of their $500 bill, they could weld the old one up.
I ended up driving farther away to a shop I've dealt with in the past, they welded it up w/ a new gasket for a grand total of $80.
It most likely fell off because there's so much heat down there, and it look like it broke off at the weld.

Same thing happened to me..
It seems like so many people are having this same problem. I Just brought it to a local muffler shop and they welded it back together for free. Its a b!tch getting the downpipe un-bolted off the catalytic converter. If you have any questions if you are doing the work yourself drop me an e-mail.
