A lot of people these days are installing computers in their cars, well I did too a few months ago, and here are some pics:
Here's the fold in screen (still needs a custom face made). I decided not to mold it into the dash, since having it out a bit made it easier to see, also I have that firewire cable there for the slim dvd drive:

Here's the touch screen in action:

This cat 5 port leads to the computer, in case I ever need to transfer files over from my laptop:

The controls for the volume are controlled by an Alpine PXA-h510 digital surround processor:

Here's what the rear looks like:

And here's where the spare used to go:

Features:
Wireless networking
150GB HD (thousands of mp3's)
GPS via Copilot
Surround sound
Extigy sound card outputting fibre optic to PXA-H510, for crystal clean signal.
Got vagcom hooked up, and can watch my RPM's as I drive.
Bently audi manual
Carputers blow the doors off any standard stereo.

I would reinforce the floor over the carputer, as it WILL bend over time... and you don't want the computer to hold up whatever you have in the back...
BTW what is the internal dimensions on the subbox? Are there amps in there too or just the sub? you have dimensions on that?
