When they say August Seventh 1986 OR 3,000 miles, you do whichever comes first.

On ANY service interval, you do the parameter that comes first, except for some break-in instructions on older Porsches that specifically use "AND" instead of "OR".

Your warranty covers X number of oil changes. I ran out of warranty oil changes real fast, because every 3,000 miles (every 50 days in my case) I had an oil change for the first 15,000 miles. I also didn't benefit from the warranty because I bought Mobil 1 Turbo High-Heat and used the warranty only for the oil change and not for the oil itself.

I don't mean to badger you if this is you first car or something, but for future reference, always change the oil at the sooner of the two interval statements. Also, depending upon your climate, always make sure the oil weight and formulation are appropriate to your engine and the weather before putting oil into your car.
