Default my exhaust is blown... help please

i was driving up my street when my exhaust just got really loud, and within an hour it got even really loud. The car shouldnt really be driven, its terrible. I need to order my exhaust today however, where I do all of my work, I go to Shine Racing where they do a great job. However its over 40 minutes away. To save the hassle would it be a bad decision to take it to my local audi mechanic to do the APR exhaust. It would be a lot more convenient but i do not want him to do it unless its easy. I am not sure how much he has ever done with after market stuff, but at the same times hes a well known mechanic.

Thanks guys

Default It's a VERY easy job. Go out to your car NOW and start soaking the bolts

on the cat/downpipe with a GOOD penetrating oil like PB Blaster or something. If you don't have anything good even WD40 will help, but get some good stuff if at all possible.

Any mechanic/person with any at all skill can do an exhaust.

Default but i bet he >wants< one...

i agree, however, that this is relatively simple enough that he should just fix it.

Default yeah, and installing cat-back exhaust will NOT fix that...need new cat or test pipe

if it is broken, i guess they can be welded too.

Default I had mine welded. Expect to pay ~$250 to fix it

They have to take the cat out to weld it, and that takes some time

Default hey justin you know where I can get new hardware for a test pipe?

My pipe it leaking due to bad gaskets and bad bolts. Think I can get all of that locally? I really want to fix her up this weekend.

cheers,
Joel

Default gaskets are audi part...i thought a header collector copper gasket....

would work from turbo to test pipe but its off by a little bit (not that that matters though, forgot u had PES big setup), and the test pipe to down pipe is a weird size too, so dealer or some online wharehouse (ecs, blau, impex, etc) unfortunatlely. I just snagged a few metric grade 8 nuts, bolts (M8x1.25x35 size) and lock washers from work for the connection.
