My fuel gauge may be defective

My fuel gauge may be defective
I was driving with about 1/4 of a tank gas today and after stopping by the bank for a few minutes when I restart my car the low fuel sign came up and the car beeps. I checked the estimated remaining milage with the driving computer and it showed 5 miles and yet the last time I checked it (around 10 minutes ago) it was showing 60 miles. Should I bring the car back to the dealer for a check up? I know that the A6s were recalled because of their faulty fuel gauges but I thought A4s are not affected? Anyone had similar problems?<p>WayneRx

I think this is normal. I have the same thing on my car. But when you turn off your car you can hear
the pump in the tank moving the fuel to the other side of the tank. The estimated computer controls the fuel gauge. So only go by milage driven after putting in a full tank of gas. You should be able to get at least 350 per tank.

I have the same problem which despite 2 replacement parts remains unresolved (more)...
I contacted AOA regarding this issue - both my brother and I have this problem, and many A4 Quattro owners have posted reports of this problem. AOA still does not recognize this as a serious issue. You should take two steps to make your voice heard which may help lead to a resolution similar to the A6 fuel gauge redesign. First, inform your dealer and have them attempt to fix it, if they cannot fix it TELL them to inform Audi of the problem. Second, call 'Audi Client Relations' at 800-822-2834 option #3 and inform them of the problem and your resulting dissatisfaction.
If enough of us with this problem follow these steps, I feel confident a solution will be found. It should be embarassing to Audi that something as simple (in concept) as a fuel gauge does not work properly (yes, I know that the part is outsourced).
I made a post regarding this issue a few weeks ago, if you are interested follow the link below.
Thanks,
Chris
