Default My mechanic is saying that 0w-30 is awfully thin for the summer to run ...

could it cause any harm? I doesnt get hotter than 95 degrees here if that matters. Maybe 1 or 2 days it will hit 100. Anyways is 0w-30 too close for comfort in the summer?

Thank you, last post about oils for a while i promise :-)

Default How high do your oil temps get? Have you considered beefing up your oil cooling system . . .

and then running a lighter weight oil?

Someone last year posted some nice shots of a complete RS4 oil cooling system upgrade with the front mounted oil cooler.

Also, which 0w-30 or 5w-30 oil you use makes a big difference, as 30 weight oils have widely varying wear resistence based on temperature. What HTHS numbers do the 30 weight oils on your "list" have?

If you run a very high quality 30 weight oil and have a good oil cooling system that keeps your oil temps low during summer, you may have the ability to run a 30 weight oil, because it will not break down under temperature--thus continuing to protect your engine adequately.

Also, what type of oil consumption do you see in your car? Lighter oil will likely increase oil consumption.

Quick Reply: My mechanic is saying that 0w-30 is awfully thin for the summer to run ...
